Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has handed in his resignation letter.

Confirming the matter to Prothom Alo today (25 February), the senior police officer said he will continue to discharge his duties until the government takes a final decision regarding his resignation.

The development comes a day after the government appointed Md Ali Hossain Fakir as the new inspector general of police, promoting him from the rank of additional IGP.

Sazzat took over as the DMP commissioner on 21 November 2024.

He joined the Bangladesh Police as an assistant superintendent of police in 1984 through the sixth BCS exams. He served in various districts and units with the utmost professionalism and reputation, according to his biography on the DMP website.
