Adviser of the interim government Muhammad Yunus has congratulated BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman on the party’s sweeping victory in the 13th national parliamentary election.

In a congratulatory message shared on Facebook on Saturday morning, Prof Yunus said the people’s decisive mandate under Tarique Rahman’s leadership marked a historic milestone in Bangladesh’s democratic transition, strengthening constitutional continuity and institutional stability.

He expressed confidence that Tarique Rahman’s wisdom, democratic values and people-centric vision would help steer the country towards a stable, inclusive and development-oriented future while shouldering the responsibility of state governance.

Recalling the ideals and state philosophy of Tarique Rahman’s father, late President Ziaur Rahman, and the uncompromising leadership and commitment to democracy of his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, the Chief Adviser said their legacy would continue to illuminate the path ahead for the new leadership.

Prof Yunus noted that Bangladesh now stands at the threshold of new global opportunities, underscoring the need for coordinated wisdom and foresight in areas such as economic transformation, technological advancement, climate resilience, human resource development, and proactive regional and international diplomacy.

He expressed hope that national unity would further consolidate under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, reinforcing democratic norms, the rule of law and accountable governance.

The Chief Adviser also thanked Tarique Rahman for his constructive cooperation during the tenure of the interim government, saying his positive role in upholding democratic space, tolerance and respect for constitutional processes during a sensitive transition period had served the national interest.

Concluding the message, Prof Yunus wished success for all initiatives aimed at public welfare, justice and building a prosperous Bangladesh, praying that Almighty Allah grant Tarique Rahman wisdom, patience and steadfastness in serving the nation.
