Police detained the Ameer of Thakurgaon district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami at Saidpur Airport in Nilphamari on the eve of voting, allegedly with more than Tk 5 million in cash.

The detainee was identified as Belal Uddin Pradhan.

Confirming the matter at around 12:45pm on Wednesday, Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zahidul Islam said the individual claimed the amount in his possession exceeded Tk 5 million.

“The police have not yet counted the money. The cash will be counted in the presence of all concerned,” the SP said.
