Suraiya Akhtar Jahan, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division, has been appointed as the new Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

The announcement was made through a notification issued by the Local Government Division on Monday (9 February).

According to the notification, under Section 25(k), Subsection (1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, she will hold the position until further orders. In this capacity, she will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the Mayor of DNCC.

The notification further states that Suraiya Akhtar Jahan will assume this role in addition to her original position. She will receive only the ‘duty allowance’ as per the rules and will not be entitled to any other financial or ancillary benefits.

Previously, Mohammad Ejaz had been appointed as DNCC Administrator for one year from 12 February 2025.

Sources at the Local Government Division confirmed that the new appointment comes in light of the completion of Ejaz’s term and the decision not to extend it.
