National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Dhaka-11 parliamentary candidate Nahid Islam has claimed that the ten-party alliance will form the next government by winning an overwhelming majority of votes.

The NCP formally launched its election campaign on Thursday (22 January) by paying tribute, offering prayers and holding a munajat at the graves of three national leaders on the campus of Dhaka University.

Speaking to journalists after the programme at around 11:30am, Nahid Islam said the campaign had deliberately begun from Dhaka University, describing the institution as deeply intertwined with the country’s history and struggles.

“Dhaka University is connected with every chapter of this land. We are starting our journey from here by remembering the forefathers of Bengal,” he said.

Referring to the ongoing election campaign, Nahid Islam described it as a movement for freedom against domination. He said the central agenda of this journey was to ensure justice for the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha.

He also called for the submission of the charge sheet in the Hadi murder case before the election.

Criticising the government and the Election Commission, Nahid Islam alleged that both institutions had taken a biased position in favour of a particular political party
