Former Secretary of the Dhaka North unit of Swechchhasebak Dal, Azizur Rahman Musabbir, was shot dead in Karwan Bazar over a business-related dispute.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) Chief Md Shafiqul Islam revealed CCTV footage linked to the killing at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Sunday afternoon.
According to the DB chief, raids conducted across Dhaka, Manikganj, Kishoreganj and Netrokona led to the arrest of key conspirators, including Md Billal, shooter Jinnat, and Md Riaz.
Billal’s brother, Abdul Kadir, who allegedly helped the perpetrators go into hiding, was also apprehended. The suspects have admitted their involvement in the murder.
Police said the killing was orchestrated by Billal, who received the contract from a senior brother abroad. “Billal agreed to carry out the murder for a payment of Tk 1.5 million and took responsibility for handling any legal proceedings,” Shafiqul Islam explained, saying, “He later hired Jinnat for Tk 3–4 lakh and a motorcycle after an earlier associate, Riaz, withdrew on the day before the killing.”
Musabbir was shot dead on Wednesday night (7 January) in West Tejturi Bazar, Tejgaon. Following the incident, his wife, Suraiya Begum, filed a case at Tejgaon police station the next day against four to five unidentified individuals.
The investigation is ongoing as police continue to probe the motives and networks behind the killing.
