Nasiruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP), will contest the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections from the Dhaka-8 constituency, which covers the Ramna and Motijheel areas.
Patwari submitted his nomination form on Monday on behalf of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami.
Known as one of the organisers of the July–August mass uprisings, Patwari had previously collected the NCP’s nomination form to contest the Dhaka-18 seat. According to party sources, he intends to use his participation in the election to publicly advance the aspirations for revolution and demand a new political settlement.
The Dhaka-8 constituency will also see competition from BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas.
Besides, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, who was recently killed in a shooting incident, had expressed interest in contesting from this seat.
