BSEC approves Nuzhat Anwar as new DSE Managing Director
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Thursday approved the appointment of Nuzhat Anwar as the new Managing Director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
DSE confirmed the approval in an evening press release.
“We are pleased to receive the approval of BSEC for appointment of Nuzhat as the new Managing Director,” said DSE Board Chairman Mominul Islam. “After a rigorous process over the last year, we are confident that Nuzhat—with her strong leadership, extensive experience at home and abroad, and passion for capital market transformation—is the right leader for DSE. We will now complete the internal processes to onboard her at the soonest.”
Nuzhat brings more than two decades of experience spanning financial markets, banking and development finance. Most recently, she served at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, where she held several senior leadership roles across Africa and South Asia.
Her assignments included Resident Representative for Liberia and Sierra Leone, Senior Country Officer for Bangladesh covering Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal, and Acting Cluster Manager during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent transition period.
Earlier, she worked as an IFC Country Officer in Botswana and Namibia, playing a key role in establishing IFC’s presence in Gaborone and facilitating the institution’s first investment in Botswana, alongside advancing sustainable investment programmes.
Nuzhat has expertise in capital management, treasury and liquidity, transaction services, portfolio optimisation and market advocacy. Prior to joining IFC, she spent 16 years with Citibank Bangladesh and Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh in various senior management roles.
She holds a Master’s degree in Commerce (Finance) from the University of Dhaka.
