A BNP leader was shot dead allegedly by his cousin over a long-running land dispute in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Wednesday morning.
The victim, identified as Biru Molla, 48, was killed in an incident that took place in Kamalpur village under Laxmikunda Union. He was the convener of Laxmikunda Union BNP and son of Abdul Molla of the same village.
According to local residents and police, the dispute stemmed from contested family land. On Tuesday, Biru’s cousin, Zahurul Molla, allegedly cut soil from the disputed land, triggering fresh tensions between the two sides.
On Wednesday morning, Biru Molla went to Zahurul’s house along with others to discuss the issue. An argument ensued, during which Zahurul Molla and his son reportedly fired shots and asked the group to leave.
Biru Molla sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and later died.
Police said they are investigating the matter and taking steps to identify and arrest those involved.
