A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station over the attempted murder of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

The case was lodged around midnight on Sunday, two days after the incident. Inquilab Manch member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed the case as the complainant, naming Faisal Karim along with several unidentified persons as accused.

Charges of attempted murder and use of illegal firearms have been brought under the case. Inspector Yasin Mia of Paltan Police Station has been assigned to investigate the matter.

Law enforcement agencies have so far arrested six people in connection with the shooting of Hadi. However, police said the prime suspect is yet to be apprehended.

Sharif Osman Hadi is one of the key organisers of the July mass uprising and serves as the spokesperson of Inquilab Manch, an uprising-inspired cultural and political movement. He is also the founder of the Inquilab Cultural Centre in Dhaka.

Hadi had earlier announced his intention to contest the next national parliamentary election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 and had been actively engaged in public outreach as part of his campaign.

On December 12, after Juma prayers, one of two assailants riding a motorcycle shot Hadi in the head while he was travelling in a rickshaw on Box Culvert Road in Old Paltan.

He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and later shifted to Evercare Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Doctors said his condition remains critical.

Amid the grave situation, Hadi is scheduled to be flown to Singapore by air ambulance on Monday noon for advanced medical treatment.
