Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, on Thursday said that the experience gained from university student union elections will be useful in ensuring the upcoming national parliamentary elections are free, fair, impartial, and secure.

He made the remarks at a briefing with journalists following a meeting at the Home Ministry conference room on the overall preparation and law-and-order situation ahead of the RAKSU and CHAKSU elections 2025.

The Adviser noted that the DU and JU student elections had already been held peacefully and impartially, and the RAKSU and CHAKSU elections will be conducted soon.

He said the meeting was attended by Vice-Chancellors, Proctors, and Chief Election Commissioners of Dhaka, Jahangirnagar, Rajshahi, and Chittagong universities, where experiences were shared.

They are among the most educated in the country, and so are the voters of these student elections, he added.

He further explained that since the national parliamentary elections are scheduled for February, lessons from the student elections are being analyzed for application at the national level. Minor shortcomings from the previous two student elections were also discussed to avoid repetition.

Jahangir Alam highlighted key suggestions from the meeting, including determining the number of polling centers, setting vote counting procedures, proper use of indelible ink, ensuring rapid announcement of results, photo-enabled voter ID cards, and transparent voter lists.

He assured that there is no concern regarding the conduct of the RAKSU and CHAKSU elections, which are expected to be free, fair, and peaceful.

He also urged all parties to cooperate for smooth elections and requested journalists to observe the process.
