The upcoming national election will be a major test for the country, said Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain on Saturday, stressing that law and order will be the foundation for ensuring a dispute-free and ideal election.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with government officials at the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, he said, “The Chief Adviser has repeatedly emphasized that the election must be conducted in such a way that no one has grounds for complaint. For that, maintaining law and order is crucial.”
“We have gone through difficult times regarding law and order,” he said. “The positive side is that the police have ultimately been able to consolidate their position.”
The adviser noted that candidates sensing possible defeat might attempt to trigger unrest. “Keeping that in mind, I believe adequate measures will be taken. The Chief Election Commissioner has already held meetings, and the Home Ministry remains alert.”
He expressed hope that a peaceful and fair election would pave the way for the formation of a new government. “We hope to hand over our responsibilities smoothly once the new government is formed through a credible election,” he added.
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan, Metropolitan Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Tofayel Ahmed, Superintendent of Police Marufat Hossain, and officials from various departments were present at the event.
