Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, has departed the United Kingdom for Bangladesh.
She has already checked in at Heathrow Airport, and her flight is scheduled to depart London at around 6pm local time. She is expected to land in Dhaka around 9:30am on Friday.
According to Khaleda Zia’s personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Zubaida will travel directly to Evercare Hospital from the airport. He said the medical team will then decide when Khaleda Zia might be flown to London for advanced treatment. The medical board is also expected to announce its decision regarding her treatment abroad by this afternoon.
A total of 16 people, including doctors, are expected to accompany Khaleda Zia during her possible travel for treatment.
They include her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Syeda Shamila Rahman, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Dr Fakhruddin Mohammad Siddiqui, Dr Shahabuddin Talukder, Dr Nuruddin Ahmed, UK physician Dr Richard John Beale, Dr Ziaul Haque, Dr Zafar Iqbal, and Dr Mohammad Al Mamun. Others in the team are Hasan Shahriar Iqbal, Syed Shamin Mahfuz, Abdul Hai Mallik, Masudar Rahman, along with caregivers Fatema Begum and Rupa Shikdar.
Despite her critical condition, BNP leaders have said that Khaleda Zia is still able to receive treatment.
She has long been suffering from arthritis, diabetes, kidney issues, lung complications, and eye-related problems.
Specialist doctors from both the United Kingdom and China have already arrived in Dhaka to assist in her treatment, providing observation and medical recommendations.
