BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will be flown to London early Friday morning for advanced medical treatment, her personal physician AZM Zahid Hossain said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters in front of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, Zahid said the decision was made unanimously by a medical board comprising local and foreign specialists, led by cardiologist Shahabuddin Talukder.

She will be taken to London on a Qatar Royal air ambulance. Two physicians from the medical board along with other necessary professionals will accompany her throughout the journey, Zahid said.

Regarding her current health condition, Zahid noted that every step has been taken strictly following the recommendations of the medical board. “They advised that sending her to London at this stage is the most appropriate. We hope she will recover and return to us,” he added.

On behalf of Khaleda Zia’s family, Zahid sought prayers from the nation for her quick recovery.

Meanwhile, BNP sources said the Amir of Qatar has assured full cooperation in facilitating her transfer abroad. The interim government is also extending all necessary support, leading to the final decision to send her to London for better treatment.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on 23 November with multiple health complications. Her condition deteriorated on 27 November, prompting her transfer to the hospital’s CCU, where she remains under intensive care.
