Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has issued a ban on motorcycle rallies during election campaigns ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election.
The directive was announced on Monday through a message issued by the party’s Secretary General, Mia Golam Porwar.
According to the statement, motorcycle rallies and processions have recently been observed in various district and metropolitan electoral areas as part of the campaign activities.
Following several accidents and injuries linked to these programmes, the party’s Ameer has imposed a restriction on holding motorcycle rallies and processions in all district and metropolitan electoral regions with immediate effect.
Speaking to media Sangbad, Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General and head of the media wing, Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, said, “Jamaat has always been a people-friendly political party. We do not want to engage in any activity that causes public inconvenience. In recent days, some of our leaders and activists participated in motorcycle rallies in a few places. This caused some discomfort to ordinary people, and therefore instructions have been given to refrain from such programmes.”
