BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s physical condition has become critical as an infection in her chest has spread to both her heart and lungs, according to Professor Dr. F M Siddiqui, a member of her medical board.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday night, Dr. Siddiqui said the infection has significantly affected her vital organs and that she will remain under close observation by the medical board for the next 12 hours.
BNP Standing Committee member and her personal physician, Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain, said it is still uncertain how long she will need to stay hospitalized, as it depends entirely on her health condition.
He added that Khaleda Zia has sought prayers from the nation for her recovery.
Earlier around 7:30 pm, she left her residence, Firoza, for the capital’s Evercare Hospital, where she was admitted for medical examinations. She had also undergone health tests at the same hospital on October 15, staying there for a day.
