The University of Dhaka has suspended all academic activities for two weeks, citing student safety and mental well-being following three consecutive earthquakes and subsequent aftershocks.
The university administration has also instructed all students to vacate residential halls by 5pm on Sunday.
The decision was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by Acting Director of the university’s Public Relations Office, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam.
According to the notification, an emergency meeting of the DU Syndicate reviewed the recent tremors and aftershocks, assessing the physical and psychological impact on students.
The meeting prioritised overall safety and considered expert opinions from BUET specialists, the university’s Director of Planning and Development, and the Chief Engineer.
After evaluating all aspects, the Syndicate decided to keep the university closed for the next two weeks.
