BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has extended heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all members of the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force on the occasion of Armed Forces Day.
In a post from his verified Facebook page on Thursday night, he conveyed his best wishes for the peace, prosperity and well-being of all members of the armed forces and their families. He also wished continued success, advancement and progress for the forces, noting that 21 November holds special significance as Bangladesh’s military forces were formally organised on this day during the 1971 Liberation War.
Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh’s armed forces have long served as vigilant guardians of the country’s independence and sovereignty through courage, discipline and professionalism. Their contribution to global peacekeeping missions has further enhanced Bangladesh’s standing in the international arena, he added.
He also praised the armed forces for their steadfast role in responding to natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies, saying this has made them a trusted institution of the nation.
Recalling past leadership, he said late President Ziaur Rahman had laid the foundation for transforming the armed forces into a modern, technology-driven and efficient force—initiatives that placed Bangladesh’s military on par with global standards. He also noted that during her tenure as Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia undertook further steps to strengthen and modernise the armed forces.
Tarique Rahman paid deep respects to the seven Bir Shreshthas for their supreme sacrifices in the Liberation War—Mostafa Kamal, Mahbubur Rahman, Hamidur Rahman, Ruhul Amin, Matiur Rahman, Noor Mohammad Sheikh and Munshi Abdur Rouf.
He concluded his message by wishing the utmost success of all programmes marking Armed Forces Day.
