The European Union has voiced its support for Bangladesh’s ongoing democratic transition under the interim government, reaffirming confidence in the country’s leadership and urging political parties to participate responsibly in the electoral process.
In a post on Facebook, the EU said it “supports Bangladesh’s progress towards democratic elections under the interim government”, stressing the importance of moving towards an inclusive and credible electoral exercise.
The statement also welcomed the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in overseeing preparations for the next national polls. “We welcome the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the context of holding a participatory, free and fair election in February,” the post read.
Calling on political parties to act responsibly, the EU encouraged all sides to engage constructively in the coming stages of the electoral process. It said such participation would be essential to ensuring a peaceful and credible vote.
The EU has been closely following developments in Bangladesh as the country moves towards elections scheduled for February, with international partners emphasising the need for transparency, inclusivity and broad political engagement.
