The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) has revoked the lifetime membership of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The decision was taken at DUCSU’s second executive meeting on Wednesday, where her membership was declared void.
DUCSU Vice President Sadik Kayem confirmed the development at a press briefing held later in the evening.
He said Sheikh Hasina’s lifetime membership had been granted illegally, in violation of DUCSU’s constitution. “In 2019, she was awarded the membership through an undemocratic resolution. Today’s meeting decided to cancel that resolution,” he added.
The meeting, held at the DUCSU Conference Room on Wednesday night, was presided over by Dhaka University Vice Chancellor and DUCSU President Prof Niaz Ahmad Khan. The General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, and other executive members were also present.
In 2019, then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was awarded lifetime membership of DUCSU. At that time, Nurul Haque served as DUCSU VP and Golam Rabbani as GS.
