The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all forms of meetings, rallies, processions and public gatherings in key judicial areas of the capital, including the official residence of the Chief Justice, judges’ quarters, the JACEZ Complex and the main gate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

The announcement was made in an official notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Monday (10 November).

The notice stated that the restrictions have been enforced under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976, in the interest of maintaining public order.

According to the notice, from Tuesday (11 November) until further instructions, all types of assemblies, including rallies, gatherings, human chains, sit-ins, strikes and processions, will be prohibited in front of the Chief Justice’s official residence, judges’ quarters, the JACEZ Complex, the main Supreme Court gate, Mazar Gate, Jame Masjid Gate, the entry points of International Crimes Tribunal-1 and 2, and the Judicial Administration Training Institute.

The notice also urged the public to refrain from obstructing traffic under the pretext of demanding various rights or claims and appealed for cooperation to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
