BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday said reaching consensus through dissent or a note of descent is a mark of civilized democracy, emphasizing that no government should serve partisan interests.
Speaking virtually at a conference organized by the Matua Bahujan Samaj Oikya Jote, Tarique said, “Even if we represent different faiths or communities, we all share one identity — we are Bangladeshis. Only the rule of law can ensure the safety of every citizen.”
He warned against what he described as “fascist forces and their clandestine wings” that may try to destabilize the country, vowing to remain vigilant on the streets with the people.
Tarique also announced that if BNP returns to power, it plans to introduce “Family Cards” for 5 million households and launch special “Farmers’ Cards” to support agricultural communities.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who also spoke at the event, said the party wants to build a progressive and non-communal Bangladesh by moving past past divisions.
He urged all to stand by BNP in the next election to help implement demands including the enactment of a Minority Protection Act.
