BNP Standing Committee Member Ameer Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has urged the government to remain alert against those attempting to disrupt the forthcoming elections.
Speaking to journalists after attending an event at Hotel Westin in Gulshan on Thursday (6 November), Khosru said Wednesday’s clash between two rival groups in Chattogram should not be taken lightly.
A clash has occurred between two terrorist groups in Chattogram, and there is an ongoing conflict between them. The BNP is not taking this matter casually. Those seeking to obstruct or delay the election are trying to exploit the rift between these two groups,” he said.
He stressed that maintaining law and order is the government’s responsibility, adding, “The government must bring the situation under control and ensure that no one can make any attempt to hinder the election process. The authorities need to be more vigilant in this regard.”
Commenting on recent discussions surrounding political reform, the BNP leader said those now showing enthusiasm for reform should recall that Begum Khaleda Zia had presented a reform proposal while Sheikh Hasina was in power.
Tarique Rahman had earlier outlined 27 points on behalf of the BNP, which were later expanded into a 31-point framework for restructuring the state in consultation with our allies in the simultaneous movement,” he explained.
Khosru said that when Tarique Rahman announced the 31 points, many were uncertain about the country’s direction. “The reform proposal was made one and a half years before Hasina’s downfall. It presents ways to empower the marginalised population in the country’s political, economic, and social spheres.”
He said the 31-point framework is intended to be implemented through a national government to rebuild the nation’s structural foundation.
