A total of 48,134 police personnel have so far received election-related training aimed at enhancing their skills and professionalism ahead of the upcoming national election, Bangladesh Police said on Tuesday.
The ongoing training programme is part of an initiative to ensure that police officers perform their duties efficiently and impartially during the polls. Earlier, a “Training of Trainers” course on the same topic was held from August 31 to September 2.
Around 150,000 police members are expected to be deployed at the field level during the national election. Their activities will be closely monitored at both national and international levels. The primary objective of the training is to make every police officer more skilled, disciplined, and professionally prepared.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has instructed all unit heads to strictly supervise the ongoing election training, which is being closely monitored by Police Headquarters.
Bangladesh Police has taken all necessary preparations to ensure that the forthcoming parliamentary election is held in a free, fair, neutral, and festive atmosphere.
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury inaugurated the training programme on September 7 at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh Police Lines. The training will continue until January.
Notably, this is the first time such a comprehensive election-oriented training programme has been arranged for police members in Bangladesh.
