The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has published a newspaper notice declaring former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 260 others as fugitives in a sedition case linked to the “Joy Bangla Brigade.”
According to CID’s Special Superintendent (Media) Jashim Uddin Khan, the public notice was issued in two widely circulated national dailies on Friday as per a court order.
Under Section 196 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the CID obtained authorization from the Ministry of Home Affairs to file the sedition case. Following that approval, the CID lodged the case in court as the plaintiff.
The investigation found that an online platform called “Joy Bangla Brigade” was allegedly used both at home and abroad to conspire against the legitimate government.
Upon completion of the probe, CID submitted a charge sheet against 286 individuals, including the former premier. Investigators said they collected and conducted forensic analysis of data from multiple digital platforms, servers, and social media.
Jashim added that on Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam of the 17th Court declared Sheikh Hasina and 260 others as fugitives and directed the publication of the notice in newspapers. Following that order, the CID issued the announcement.
