A Sylhet court has issued a show-cause notice to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Sarwoer Alam for his alleged involvement in the dismissal of several teachers at an English-medium institution in the city.
The court of Senior Assistant Judge in Sylhet passed the order on Thursday, directing the DC to submit a written explanation within 15 working days, court sources said.
Two teachers and the vice-principal of Sylhet Khajanchibari International School and College (SKISC) were recently dismissed, prompting senior teacher Abeda Haque to challenge the legality of the decision by filing a petition.
The petition alleged that the dismissals were carried out unlawfully by exerting administrative influence.
After reviewing the petition, the court observed that the DC’s role appeared questionable and showed initial signs of violating earlier court directives. It then ordered him to explain why legal action should not be taken against him.
When contacted on Sunday evening, DC Sarwoer said, “We have not yet received any notice from the court. Once we get it, we will respond accordingly.”
Advocate Irshadul Haque, counsel for the petitioner, said the show-cause notice was issued to the Deputy Commissioner in the interest of justice.
“We expect the matter will be resolved through a proper investigation and judicial process,” he added.
