The interim government has clarified that its advisory council will continue to perform its duties until the elected government assumes office, and that reform initiatives will proceed without a fixed deadline.
In a statement issued on Monday from the office of the Chief Adviser, the interim government addressed confusion arising from remarks made by Adviser Mahfuj Alam, who had earlier suggested that the advisory council’s work would conclude in November.
“The assertion that the implementation of government reforms and policy initiatives must be completed by November is not correct. Reform activities will continue in full swing,” the statement said.
It further clarified that the advisory council will continue to carry out its responsibilities until the transfer of power to the elected government and that its meetings will be held regularly.
The clarification followed comments made by Adviser Mahfuj Alam during a “Meet the Reporters” programme at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, which were widely reported in the media and led to some confusion regarding the council’s tenure.
