Three people, including two schoolchildren, were killed and two others injured when a truck overturned onto a van in Pabna Sadar upazila on Sunday morning.

The accident occurred around 7:30 am on the Dhaka-Pabna highway in Bangabaria area under Gayeshpur union.

The deceased were identified as Tasmiya Akter, a fourth-grade student, and Abu Toha, a fifth-grader of Pabna Collegiate School and College, along with van driver Akram Hossain.

According to police and witnesses, a bamboo-laden truck was heading toward Jalalpur from Pushpapara when the driver lost control while trying to avoid another vehicle. The truck overturned and fell on the van carrying the schoolchildren, killing the three on the spot.

Two others, including Sad Hossain, son of Abdur Rashid of Madhupara village, sustained serious injuries and were taken to Pabna General Hospital.

Confirming the incident, Madhupur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman said three people, including the van driver, died in the accident while two pedestrians at a nearby tea stall were injured.

The bodies have been recovered and the truck has been seized. Legal procedures are underway,” the OC added.
