One person was killed and at least 50 others were injured in a clash between two groups over establishing dominance in Brahmanbaria’s Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Nasir Uddin, 65, son of late Moiz Uddin of Birampur village under Sadar upazila’s Sadekpur union.
Police and locals said the clash broke out around 6am between the supporters of former union parishad chairman Harun Mia and local businessman Satchu Mia, both residents of Birampur village, following a long-standing dispute over local dominance.
During the sporadic fighting that continued until around 11:30am, Nasir Uddin — a supporter of Satchu Mia — was killed, and at least 50 others from both sides sustained injuries. Several houses were also set on fire during the violence.
Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azharul Islam said police and army personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area to prevent further clashes.
