A fire that broke out at a six-storey building in Mirpur’s Kalshi area was brought under control after nearly two hours of relentless efforts by seven units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Deputy Director of Dhaka Division Fire Service, Saleh Uddin, told reporters that the blaze was brought under control at 12:05 am. Although the fire has not been completely extinguished, there is no longer any risk of it spreading.
The fire originated around 10:15 pm on Friday at the sixth floor of the Biye Bari Community Centre in Kalshi.
Upon receiving the information, two units from the nearby Pallabi Fire Station rushed to the spot first. As the flames intensified, additional units from Kurmitola and Mirpur fire stations joined the operation.
A total of seven units worked together to bring the fire under control, and firefighting operations are still ongoing to fully douse the flames.
According to Saleh Uddin, the fire started on the sixth floor, which had been abandoned. No casualties were reported in the incident.
The cause of the fire could not be determined immediately. The Fire Service will investigate the incident to identify the reason behind the blaze.
