At least two people were injured in a clash between two factions of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Dhaka this evening, reportedly over a previous financial dispute.
The incident took place around 6:15pm on the second floor of Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Hall in the capital’s Shahbagh area.
Witnesses said a coordination meeting for Dhaka North, South, and district units was underway on the third floor when party members from Mohammadpur (Basila) and Bangshal got into a scuffle on the floor below.
One of the injured was identified as Yusuf, a party activist from the Bangshal unit.
Several NCP members said the dispute dates back about three months, when Bangshal leaders went to Mohammadpur over a financial matter involving a company. They claimed that Riyan, a local leader from Mohammadpur, allegedly took Tk 2 lakh from them and tried to detain them, though they escaped. Efforts to recover the money reportedly failed.
This evening, Bangshal activists confronted Riyan at the convention hall, leading to an argument near the lift area that escalated into a physical altercation.
