BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday alleged that some political parties are making efforts to delay the upcoming national election and prevent it from being held on time.
He said a timely election is necessary to reshape the country’s politics, economy, and education system.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the book ‘Shaheed Zia’ at the Muktijoddha Smriti Milonayatan of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in the capital’s Kakrail area, the BNP leader said, “We need an election to restructure the political, economic, and educational systems of the country. Given the current situation, a political government is urgently needed.”
Fakhrul thanked the interim government for completing some reform initiatives, saying that BNP has been the true driving force behind those reforms.
Responding to those who, according to him, are trying to portray BNP as a villain, the BNP secretary general said, “Some people are spreading false propaganda that BNP is against reforms. But the truth is, whatever good has happened in this country has been through BNP and Ziaur Rahman.”
He further said if Ziaur Rahman had died in 1971, Bangladesh would have turned into a failed state like Libya or Afghanistan.
