BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the party envisions a future Bangladesh as a “Rainbow State,” where people of all professions, communities, and religions will enjoy equal rights.

Speaking at the BNP Chairperson’s office, Fakhrul recalled that former party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia had first highlighted the concept of a Rainbow State in 2016.

It is a vision where the rights of all people, regardless of religion, belief, or profession, will be safeguarded. Guided by the ideals of Bangladeshi nationalism, we aim to move forward inclusively,” he said.

He criticized the ruling Awami League for pursuing divisive politics, saying, “The government has created widespread divisions and misunderstandings, undermining the state structure. But the people do not want to see revenge or retribution; the key is to foster politics of unity.”

Fakhrul also alleged that certain foreign actors are using media to spread false propaganda against Bangladesh.

Ethnic positions, geopolitical considerations, and other factors have created divisions, which some have tried to exploit. But BNP does not believe in division. Our philosophy is to build a non-communal country by uniting people of all faiths,” he added.

Emphasizing the need for unity in the current context, he said, “We do not engage in discussions like proportional representation or similar debates. We remind everyone that we fought the liberation war in 1971 and now, in 2025, we have a new opportunity to build Bangladesh anew. We want all communities to live together in this land and have their fundamental rights protected.”

He also called on the government to ensure the safety and security of minority communities, assuring, “BNP stands with minorities now and will continue to do so in the future.”

During the event, around 50 individuals, including prominent Hindu citizens Somnath De, Kapil Krishna Mondal, and Somen Saha, formally joined BNP.
