Allegations have emerged of a cocktail attack on the motorcade of Sarjis Alam, Chief Organiser (Northern Region) of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), in Bogura.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in Bogura city. Sarjis Alam had arrived in the district around 3:00 pm to attend a coordination meeting at the Bogura District Council auditorium, following a coordination meeting in Joypurhat earlier in the day.

Before joining the meeting, he spoke to journalists, sharing his views on the upcoming elections and other issues.

Shortly after, while the coordination meeting was underway, two cocktail devices were reportedly thrown from the riverside near the Karatoa River behind the District Council. One of the cocktails exploded within the council premises, while the other remained unexploded.

Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the attack and successfully recovered the unexploded device.

NCP leaders alleged that police had not taken adequate security measures despite repeated requests, noting that only two police personnel were deployed, which allegedly allowed the attackers to exploit the situation.

The police confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.
