Panic and shock gripped the Mazar Road area of Mirpur on Sunday when armed intruders carried out a daring daylight robbery at a local residence, making away with 100 bhori of gold and Tk 32 lakh in cash.
The incident occurred around 11:00 am at the home of Mohammad Ullah, a local parts trader, leaving him and his family traumatised.
Residents of the area described the neighbourhood as tense following the brazen attack.
According to Darus Salam Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Rokibul Hossain, the police are collecting CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the culprits. “We are actively working to trace the criminals,” he said.
CCTV footage reportedly shows a masked young man ringing the doorbell at 11:00 am. As soon as the door was opened, two more individuals entered, brandishing weapons. The intruders reportedly tied up the female homeowner before ransacking the house.
The robbers broke open an almirah and stole 100 bhori of gold along with Tk 32 lakh that had been kept for business purposes.
The female resident also suffered physical assault during the robbery.
She alleged that the attack was carried out by a coordinated gang and claimed that an employee of a local internet company may have been involved.
Footage shows the masked individuals leaving the house around 11:15 am, carrying bags containing the stolen items. The family, still in shock, has appealed for swift action from law enforcement agencies.
Several senior police officers visited the house following the incident.
OC Rokibul Hossain confirmed that steps are underway to file a case and further investigations are going on.
