Overnight rain has left many of Dhaka’s main roads waterlogged, stranding commuters and causing traffic chaos from the early hours of Wednesday.
Several vehicles broke down in the submerged streets, creating congestion despite light traffic.
Puja holiday travel added to the woes, with families, office-goers, and pedestrians wading through ankle-deep water.
Angan Pal, waiting at Shewrapara bus stand to travel to his village with his family, said, “Women and children are struggling, and our belongings are getting soaked as the rain continues.”
Few buses braved the waterlogged roads, and CNG-auto drivers reported engine failures due to the flooding.
Abdul Awal, a CNG driver, said, “The engine stopped because of the water; now we have to tow the vehicle manually.”
Commuters and drivers alike are urging authorities to take effective measures to tackle the city’s chronic waterlogging problem.
