Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Sunday unveiled the official trophy of the 2nd Women’s Kabaddi World Cup, marking Bangladesh’s debut as host of the global tournament.

He revealed the trophy at the state guesthouse Jamuna in the presence of delegates from all participating nations.

Bangladesh is hosting the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup for the first time, scheduled to take place from 17 to 24 November at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the capital.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Adviser said the unveiling was not only a celebration ahead of the World Cup but also a reflection of Bangladesh’s growing leadership in advancing women’s sports on the global stage.

Prof Yunus highlighted the significance of hosting the tournament in Dhaka and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring an inclusive, inspiring and world-class event.

He welcomed all visiting teams and praised the efforts of organisers, athletes and partners working to make the championship a success.

The 2025 Women’s Kabaddi World Cup will feature leading national teams, with eight days of competition, cultural exchange and global sporting camaraderie.

Organisers from the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation said preparations — including logistics, security, team accommodation and spectator arrangements — are progressing rapidly.

The tournament will be formally inaugurated on 17 November, with matches held daily until the final on 24 November.

Participating countries include Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Iran, India, Kenya, Nepal, Poland, Thailand, Uganda and Zanzibar.

Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said the government is actively working to promote women athletes and expand their participation in competitive sports.

He noted that Bangladeshi women athletes continue to demonstrate excellence internationally and assured full support to help them progress further.
