The interim government is working to make tourism in Bangladesh safe, enjoyable and affordable, said Sk Bashiruddin, Adviser to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism as well as the Ministry of Commerce, on Saturday.

Marking World Tourism Day 2025, celebrated under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Development”, a colourful rally was held in front of the Tourism Building in Agargaon this morning. The programme began at 9:30am with the adviser cutting a ribbon to inaugurate the rally.

Tourism officials and representatives from various organisations across the country joined the event, chanting slogans highlighting different demands for the sector.

Speaking to reporters after the rally, Bashiruddin said the government is working to develop new tourism destinations at affordable costs, while also ensuring that travel remains safe and enjoyable.

We are developing new tourist sites at affordable prices, making the best use of our resources. Codes of conduct are being established at tourist spots to ensure visitors’ rights and safety, he said.

The adviser further noted that while tourism has significant economic value, it should not be judged by financial standards alone.

Economy matters, but it is secondary here. What matters most is that tourists should never be deceived. We will all work together to ensure that, he added.

Later, he attended a discussion session organised as part of the day’s programmes. Speakers at the discussion placed various demands before the adviser, with repeated emphasis on strengthening safety measures for tourists.
