Nearly 42 percent of students failed this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations, with most of them failing in Accounting and English.

An analysis of the results shows that students failed the most in three subjects, with Accounting topping the list—41.46 percent failed in the subject. English had the second-highest failure rate at 38.8 percent, followed by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with 27.28 percent.

A total of 12,35,661 students appeared in this year’s exams, among whom 7,26,960 passed. Of them, 3,93,096 are female students and 3,33,864 are male students. The pass rate among female students stood at 62.97 percent, while it was 54.60 percent among male students.

By groups, the pass rate in the Science group was the highest at 78.67 percent, followed by 55.52 percent in the Business Studies group and 50.54 percent in the Humanities group.

In the Science group, a total of 2,57,659 students took part in the exam, including 1,23,100 male and 1,34,559 female students. Of them, 2,06,393 students passed. The pass rate among male students was 77.51 percent, while female students achieved a slightly higher rate of 79.67 percent.
