Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to arrived in Malaysia on his first official bilateral foreign visit since assuming office in February this year. The visit is expected to open a new chapter in Dhaka–Kuala Lumpur relations, with both countries seeking to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, technology, labour, and other strategic sectors.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is visiting Malaysia at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. He is accompanied by his spouse Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, and a high-level delegation.

Upon his arrival in Putrajaya, the Bangladeshi Prime Minister is scheduled to receive an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Complex before holding bilateral talks with his Malaysian counterpart.

The two leaders are expected to review the overall state of bilateral relations and discuss expanding cooperation in key areas including trade and investment, human resource management, semiconductor industries, energy, agriculture, and education. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of common interest.

During the visit, both sides are expected to witness the signing and exchange of several agreements, including an MoU on cultural cooperation and agreements related to counter-terrorism research and investment promotion.

The visit comes as economic ties between the two countries continue to grow. Bilateral trade reached nearly 12.2 billion Malaysian ringgit in 2025, making Bangladesh Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner in South Asia after India.

Established in 1972, the longstanding relationship between Bangladesh and Malaysia is expected to enter a new phase through this landmark visit.
