A violent clash broke out between students of Daffodil International University and City University in Ashulia, Savar, early Monday over a trivial incident, leaving at least 50 injured and causing massive damage to property.
The four-hour chaos, which erupted around midnight and lasted till 4:30am, saw repeated attacks, vandalism, and arson—particularly at City University. Witnesses alleged that law enforcement was slow to intervene.
The trouble began in the evening when a City University student allegedly spat from his motorcycle near Bachelor Paradise Hostel, accidentally hitting a Daffodil student. An altercation soon escalated into a full-blown fight between students of both universities.
Around 9pm, some 40–50 City University students armed with local weapons and bricks attacked a Daffodil student residence, vandalising property.
As videos of the attack spread on social media, over a thousand Daffodil students gathered and marched toward City University, triggering large-scale violence.
After midnight, Daffodil students stormed the City University campus, confining students inside and vandalising several buildings. They allegedly looted computers and other valuables from the administrative block and set fire to three buses and a private car, while also damaging five more vehicles.
Crude bombs were exploded to spread panic, and parts of the City University campus remained ablaze until dawn. Despite administrative efforts, students from both institutions continued chasing and counter-chasing each other for hours.
Ashulia Police Station duty officer SI Habibur Rahman said the situation was later brought under control, with law enforcers deployed on the scene.
