The central bank has said that refusing to accept Tk 1 and Tk 2 coins in financial transactions is a violation of existing laws.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Department of Communications and Publications (DCP) of Bangladesh Bank said it has recently observed that some people in certain areas of the country are reluctant to use Tk 1 and Tk 2 coins in transactions.

This reluctance goes against the prevailing laws,” the statement added.

The central bank also clarified that along with paper notes, all types of coins currently in circulation are legal tender, urging the public to use them in cash transactions.
