The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) has formed a new committee for the July 2026-June 2027 term, with Sabbir Ahmed elected as president and four others elected as vice-presidents, according to a press release issued on Tuesday evening.
Niaz Mohammad, Ala Uddin, Asifur Rahman and Mohammad Redwanur Rahman were elected vice-presidents for the same term, the release said.
Sabbir is a partner at Huda Vasi Chowdhury & Co, one of the country's leading chartered accountancy firms, formerly known as A.F. Ferguson & Co.
He has worked at one of the world's "Big Four" accounting firms across several countries, including Australia, Indonesia, Germany, Singapore, the UAE and the UK, and brings over three decades of professional experience, including more than 12 years at the international level.
Niaz is senior partner at Howladar Yunus & Co, a member firm of Grant Thornton International. He has more than 25 years of experience providing audit, assurance and business advisory services to banks, financial institutions, the public sector, development organisations and private companies.
Ala Uddin currently serves as deputy managing director and chief financial officer (CFO) of MetLife Bangladesh. He brings over 22 years of experience in financial management in senior positions at Robi Axiata Limited, Novartis Bangladesh Limited, Grameenphone and British American Tobacco Bangladesh.
Asifur is currently a partner at Hossain Farhad & Co, Chartered Accountants. He specialises in audit, assurance, risk management, compliance review and internal control, with more than 25 years of experience in senior roles at various organisations, including as finance controller at MetLife Bangladesh.
Redwanur currently serves as senior partner at Redwan Rahman & Co Chartered Accountants. He previously held senior positions at MetLife Bangladesh, LankaBangla Investments Limited, Union Capital Limited and KPMG Bangladesh.
The newly elected office-bearers will assume charge on July 1, 2026.
