Bangladesh is working with Russia to import petroleum products on government–to –government basis as the energy crisis deepens amid war in the middle-east, source said.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Russia Md Nazrul Islam called on Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the latter’s office recently and discussed matter of mutual interest.

Meanwhile, Md Nazrul Islam held a meeting with Energy Minister of the Central Asian country Erlan Akkenzhenov and discussed the maters in energy cooperation in details.
The Bangladesh diplomat also will hold a meeting with Energy Minister of the Central Asian country Erlan Akkenzhenov to prepare modalities in importing petroleum products.
Bangladesh has requested the USA to lift embargo on Russian oil in a bid to ease energy crisis until next three months, sources in Washington.
As of early 2026, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is the President of Kazakhstan, serving since June 12, 2019.
Kazakhstan is a major global oil producer and key Caspian region player, producing 1.86 million barrels per day as of March 2025. Major projects include the Tengiz field (led by Chevron), Kashagan, and Karachaganak, with national operator KazMunaiGas (KMG) participating in most ventures. Oil is exported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) to international markets
Md Nazrul Islam will also meet with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko this month and explored with the potentials with CIS country.
