The government has approved the procurement of 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils at a cost of Tk 7.22 crore.

The approval came on Tuesday at a meeting of the Advisers’ Council Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.

According to meeting sources, the committee endorsed a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce to procure the lentils locally through the Open Tender Method (National). The lentils will be supplied in 50-kg bags.

The purchase will be made from Joytun Auto Rice and Dal Mills Ltd of Khulna. The total cost of the procurement will be Tk 7.22 crore, with the price set at Tk 72.20 per kg.

In the same meeting, the committee also approved proposals for the procurement of rice, soybean oil, rice bran oil and the import of several types of fertiliser.
