Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended the week with gains, as most issues advanced while turnover moved in opposite directions on the two bourses.

After a sluggish start in the morning, DSE’s benchmark index had inched up by only 1 point halfway through the session, while CSE was still in the red. Market momentum picked up after 2pm, lifting the indices on both exchanges.

The DSEX rose by 21 points, the Shariah-based DSES by 2 points, and the blue-chip DS30 by 4 points.

Most issues gained at the DSE, with prices of 262 companies advancing against 64 declining and 66 remaining unchanged.

In the block market, shares of 31 companies worth Tk 23 crore were traded, with Fine Foods accounting for the highest value at Tk 8 crore.

Turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 463 crore, down from Tk 533 crore in the previous session.

Deshbandhu Polymer Ltd topped the gainers’ list with a 9.25 percent rise, while Meghna Petroleum Ltd led the losers, falling by more than 8 percent.

The CSE also closed higher, with the CASPI increasing by 20 points.

At the port-city bourse, 86 issues advanced, 44 declined and 31 remained unchanged.

CSE posted a turnover of Tk 13 crore, up from Tk 9.90 crore in the previous session.

Sonargaon Textiles Company Ltd emerged as the day’s top gainer with a 10 percent rise, while Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills Ltd was the worst performer, losing more than 9 percent.
