The Dhaka district administration has announced financial assistance for those killed or injured in Friday’s earthquake that shook the capital and several other parts of the country.

In a special press release issued Friday night, Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Md Rezaul Karim said that the family of any person who dies in the earthquake while residing in Dhaka or visiting the city for work will receive up to Tk 25,000.

Injured individuals will be provided up to Tk 15,000 in assistance from the district administration, based on the recommendation of the attending physician, if they wish to apply.

According to the notice, the injured person—or an attendant or close relative staying with them at the hospital—may contact the district administration’s control room to receive the support.

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake, with its epicentre in Narsingdi and a depth of 10 km, struck at 10:38 am on Friday, lasting several seconds, according to the Meteorological Department.
