The government has approved a proposal to import 50,000 metric tonnes of rice from India at a cost of Tk 217.69 crore.

The approval came at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held on Sunday, with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Under package-3 of the 2025–26 fiscal year, the rice will be procured from India’s M/s Gurudeo Export Corporation Pvt Ltd through international open tendering.

Each metric tonne of non-basmati parboiled rice will cost USD 356.78, bringing the total expenditure to Tk 217.69 crore. The proposal was made by the Ministry of Food.

At the same meeting, the committee also approved a separate proposal for fertilizer import.
