The government has approved the import of 100,000 tonnes of rice worth Tk 446 crore from the United Arab Emirates and Myanmar.
The approval came at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held on Wednesday.
Under Package-2 of the international open tender for the fiscal year 2025–26, 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice will be procured from Dubai-based M/S CredentOne FZCO at a cost of Tk 216.90 crore. The price per metric tonne will be USD 355.99.
Another 50,000 tonnes of Atap rice will be imported from the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement, at a cost of Tk 229.32 crore. The price per metric tonne will be USD 376.50.
With these two purchases, the total cost of importing 100,000 tonnes of rice from the two countries stands at Tk 446.23 crore. The import proposal was approved following a recommendation from the Ministry of Food.
