President of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) Taskeen Ahmed has expressed serious concern over the fire incident at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on October 18, 2025.

Speaking on Sunday, Taskeen Ahmed urged that a high-powered investigation be conducted to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

He emphasized that ports and airports are critical for trade and the economy, and effective measures must be taken to strengthen fire safety and firefighting capacity at such key locations.

Pointing out that HSIA is extensively used by the business community for import and export activities in addition to passenger services, Taskeen Ahmed warned that unexpected fire incidents could create insecurity and uncertainty among local and foreign entrepreneurs, potentially affecting Bangladesh’s image in global trade and threatening overall economic stability.

He also highlighted that the fire could undermine entrepreneurs’ confidence and disrupt business operations.

Taskeen Ahmed called on authorities to promptly assess the extent of the losses and ensure fair compensation to affected businesspersons.

He also urged the government to consider keeping cargo operations active even during weekends to maintain smooth business continuity.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of providing necessary medical treatment to the injured victims and wished them a speedy recovery.
